Generation Rwanda Cocktail Party

Hi everyone,

I’m writing to let you know about a special event that I’m volunteering at this Wednesday that’s being held by Generation Rwanda, a nonprofit that provides university scholarships to extremely talented and motivated Rwandan youths who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access higher education. By providing its students with the most comprehensive scholarship in Rwanda, the organization is empowering young people who would never have had the chance to attend university to become their nation’s superstars.

Two of the students supported by Generation Rwanda – Phillip Mulari and Patricie Uwase – arrived in New York last night to begin a three-week visit to the United States. Patricie Uwase is a civil engineering student who has the highest grades of any Generation Rwanda student at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology; she did not speak English when she entered the program but now does translations for Ph.D students — after only two years of language training. Phillip Mulari is an exceptionally poised accounting & business student who grew up as a refugee in Uganda but now dreams about becoming an entrepreneur who will lead his country to prosperity. In a small, rapidly growing country like Rwanda, 200 students who are extremely motivated and who are equipped with the skills to succeed can have a tremendous long-term impact on a country’s future.

Hearing Phillip and Patricie speak will be enough to make the night spectacular, but we’ll also have a great venue (a gallery at the Chelsea Art Museum), food, wine, and music. I hope you can be there!

You can buy tickets at http://generationrwanda.charityhappenings.org/ or RSVP to newyorkevent@generationrwanda.org. Student tickets are available for $40 each. Please share the link above and/or the attached invitation with your friends and colleagues!
